It’s coming up for three years now since Covid took a grip on the planet. The international shipping industry was hit badly by lockdowns. Sailings were cancelled, containers were in the wrong places. Three years later, little has changed, except prices are still astronomically high. The first move the industry made when Covid took a hold was to increase prices. As things have got back to normal, there has been very little evidence of prices reducing or service improving. The only thing that seems to have improved are the shipping lines’ profits. Shipping costs have a significant effect on the cost of the products they are moving, but this is hardly mentioned when inflation is discussed.
